synthetic and medicinal chemistry services

SYN|thesis is a drug discovery chemistry outsourcing company started by scientists who were unsatisfied with the services they received from existing CROs, and decided to build a company that could deliver low cost FTEs without compromising timeliness, quality or IP protection.

Our core synthetic and medicinal chemistry facilities are in Shanghai China, but we are wholly western-owned, with a professional communication and project management culture. We have FTE rates that are less than half of US or European CROs and competitive with any CRO in China or India. We don’t over-promise on timelines and have a reputation for delivering on or ahead of schedule.

Why SYN|Thesis? We have a 95% client return rate, and our clients now include biotech companies and academia from the US, Australia and Europe. People come to us and stay with us, not because we are the lowest cost or largest chemistry CRO, but because we treat every project as special, with the invaluable bonus of guidance and insights from our scientific founders - people who have a track record in successful drug discovery. We encourage you to try us out on one of your most challenging projects.
Our core capabilities
  • Heterocyclic chemistry
  • Natural products chemistry
  • Asymmetric synthetic chemistry
  • Peptide and peptidomimetic chemistry (solution phase)
  • Resolution of enantiomers and chiral synthesis
  • Combinatorial building blocks (medium scale)
  • Scaffolds (natural products or synthetic)
  • Reference compounds (literature or competitor compound) and metabolites (putative or known)
  • Advanced intermediates (medium scale)
  • Final target compounds (small and medium scale)
  • Hit expansion libraries
  • SAR development
  • Hit-Lead optimization
  • PK optimization

Major Instrumentation

  • Agilent 1200 LC-MS SQ
  • Agilent 1200 HPLC
  • Bohdan mini block for parallel synthesis
  • High pressure reactor
  • Jones Chromatography Flashmaster
  • Microwave Reactor (Biotage)
  • Varian prep HPLC
  • Waters 2695 HPLC-MS
How we operate
  • FTE (Full-time-equivalent chemist) basis
  • FFS (Fee for service) basis, where the cost of a project is pre-agreed
  • Risk-sharing basis, where we discount the FTE or FFS charge but receive an upside when the goal is achieved or even a share of downstream benefits.
